Antique Chinese Red Silk Forbidden Stitch Embroidered Fish Gourd Robe Trim
This antique Chinese red silk forbidden stitch embroidered fish gourd robe trim dates from the late 19th century. It is made of a red silk fabric with varying shades of blue, black and white forbidden stitch Peking knot hand embroidery work. There is an embroidered floral, gourd, fish design. The gourd symbolizes longevity and the fish fertility. This trim might have been part of an older Manchu robe trim for added decoration and symbolism. It has has been professionally matted with a blue floral damask weave silk ribbon trim and newer brocade fabric border matting with a golden brown silk backing suitable and ready for framing. It measures 13 1/2 by 8 inches and is in good condition. This is truly a beautiful one of a kind piece of antique Chinese textile embroidery art!
