Description
This was given to me when I was young about (16 -17 years young ) by a family friend who collected things over his life time. It was old then as he told me it was rescued from a retired Model T Firetruck. I checked the history of those firetrucks and most of them were made from automobile chassis and very few were from truck built chassis. The trucks were equipped with several of these to allow firemen to enter buildings in low light conditions and rescue victims inside. Don't know when battery powered flashlights were invented but these were used before that time. The lamp was used by my wife and I in our early marriage years when power went out, so it still worked and the copper base did not leak and the wick adjusted the light. I never painted it or polished it as it looked too cool by itself. After all you would expect a object that is about 100 years old to look old and used. I packed this one and a newer model in a box during our first move and found them lately while cleaning out the attic and if it looks old it is because IT IS OLD. I want to sell this one to a collector or it would make a very nice gift to a retired or retiring fire dept. member. Perfect for a meeting room of a Fire Hall in a glass case with other memorabilia.
