These pliers have been custom made for me  by a company that manufactures tools specifically for jewelers.  I have had them  machined speci
fically to my specifications so that they will be ideal for any bassoonist.
They function both as a wire cutting plier, and forming & crimping plier.
Unlike any other plier out there, the wire cutter head is now made of TUNGSTEN CARBIDE.  Such carbide is the absolute hardest form of steel, and is used worldwide in the machining of all other types of steel. So- unlike other bassoon pliers from other sellers,  this cutter will not get dull with use.
The "hole" (used for forming and crimping), has been machined into an oval shape (like on the Rieger pliers), which makes for more even contact all around the tube of a bassoon reed during the forming process.  It also leaves less damage to the wires if you choose to crimp them as well.
One side of the tip section has been machined/ bevelled down to allow for crimping between the wires (see pictures).
Additionally, the tip has serrated teeth for easy gripping when pulling and twisting the wires during forming.
Do a search of the other bassoon suppliers out there, and you will find no better deal for your money.
Also-some of the less expensive tools being sold on the internet, and by other big-name suppliers, are made from inferior metals (usually inexpensive carbon steel) and while functional at some levels at the beginning , specifically have extremely very poor cutting ability & short lifespans (get dull right away!) when trimming the wires.
